Christian auf dem Rabenkopf

I translate complexity into usable products.

Hi, I’m Christian – a Product Designer and Full-Stack AI Developer. But just as importantly, I’m a family person who loves nature and seeks out new challenges – whether it’s paragliding, BJJ, or a long hike in the mountains. For me, it’s not about being the best. It’s about giving my best, continuing to learn, and keeping going – especially when things get tough and the easier path would be more tempting.

About me

My story and how I work

Since 2008, I’ve been designing digital products across industries such as mobility, IIoT, and banking. Today, I also build my own AI products – from strategy and UX to development and launch.

01

Understand first, build second.

The most expensive mistakes happen at the start. I invest in the problem before investing in the solution.

02

Show, don't promise.

A running version says more than any concept paper. I work towards the moment you can click.

03

Few clients. Full attention.

I deliberately work with only a few clients at a time. In return, I bring focus, ownership, and full commitment.

Collaboration

The team always wins.

The best products aren’t built on great design and great code alone. They emerge when everyone’s ideas and perspectives come together – from business, design and development to the people we’re building the product for.

Honest, in both directions.

Open and honest collaboration matters to me. The best projects happen when different perspectives come together and the outcome matters more than ego. In the end, it’s not about who had the idea – it’s about whether it solves the problem.

A shared journey.

Building a product is always a bit of an adventure for me. Not everything goes according to plan, some ideas get discarded, while others suddenly work better than expected. That’s part of what makes it exciting. I like to have fun at work, and I truly believe that teams who are passionate about what they do and genuinely enjoy working together build better products.

Long-term preferred

I do my best work when I can stay with a product over time and really get to know its users. That’s why I prefer long-term collaboration over short-term projects.

Thinking indoors, recharging outdoors.

Digital work needs balance. I find mine outdoors in nature, training with friends, or simply having good conversations with interesting people.

  • since 2025ElyviteFounder · AI research platform for health experts, live as a SaaS with subscriptionOwn product
    Product Designer & Founder

A research product people can trust needs more than powerful AI. It needs reliable sources, transparency and traceability. Elyvite helps health professionals stay up to date and research complex topics. It shows where leading experts agree, where they disagree and how that compares with current studies.

    • Product strategy, UX and interaction design
    • Full-stack development, AI agents and multi-model orchestration
    • Research and knowledge architecture across three layers: expert knowledge, studies, web
    • SaaS operations with authentication, billing and six languages
    • AI transparency and the requirements of the EU AI Act

Today Elyvite is a live SaaS product, available internationally, with subscription billing and fully in production.

  • since 2026makerOSCo-Founder · structured environment for AI-assisted software developmentOwn product
    Co-Founder

Building software with AI becomes far more powerful when AI is part of a structured development process rather than just a coding assistant. Together with my co-founder I am building makerOS: visual product planning, specialised AI agents and development tools in one connected workflow.

    • Product strategy and UX for an AI-native development environment
    • Workflows that connect product planning and software development
    • Specialised AI agents for different development tasks
    • Kanban and visual planning for human and agent collaboration

We build our own products with the platform. That makes it both a development environment and a continuous real-world test.

  • 12/2025 – 03/2026GrappleKitFounder · training app for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, iOS and AndroidOwn product
    AI Product Designer

From idea to a live product in three months. I designed, built and launched GrappleKit: from concept and UX to native iOS development, AI infrastructure and App Store release.

    • Product strategy, concept and UX/UI
    • Native iOS development, backend with Supabase
    • AI-powered search across 40,000 training videos from 44 curated channels
    • Video library, training journal, technique tracking and a coach dashboard

The project changed how I think about product design: when you have to build and run your own product, an additional option is no longer just an element but logic, states, tests and maintenance.

  • 2025DKBVision 2030 Playbook · product vision for private and business bankingBanking
    Senior UX/UI Designer & Consultant

What should business banking look like in 2030? As part of a multidisciplinary team I worked on the Vision 2030 Playbook for DKB private and business banking, looking at how changing customer needs and emerging technologies will shape the digital banking experience.

    • Exploring future customer needs, scenarios and digital experiences
    • Translating strategic ideas into tangible UX/UI concepts
    • Developing user journeys and interaction concepts
    • Making future banking experiences visible through design

The result was a shared, tangible vision that makes possible directions for business banking easier to explore, discuss and develop further.

  • 2021 – 2024Deutsche BahnRIS Communicator · digital workplace for around 30,000 train staff · iF Design Award 2026Mobility
    Lead UX Designer

A mission-critical digital workplace used every day by more than 30,000 train staff across Germany. The task was to turn complex, time-critical railway operations into an experience that holds up in real conditions: on the move, under time pressure and across different roles.

    • Leading UX across multiple development teams
    • Information architecture, interaction concept and interface
    • Consistent patterns across a growing set of features
    • Close collaboration with product owners, business analysts, developers and the DB brand team

The result is a unified digital workplace for one of the most demanding environments there is: thousands of people making time-critical decisions while the trains are moving.

  • 2015 – 2025NuveonLead UX / product design partner · mHub, mVariants, mWiki: a product ecosystem for industryIndustry
Senior UX Lead & Product Design Partner

Designing a product for more than ten years changes how you see UX. As a long-term design partner and UX lead I shaped mHub, a modular MES and IIoT platform for complex industrial production. It connects the shop floor with business operations: processes, machines and real-time data in one system.

    • Designing the platform and its modular ecosystem
    • Translating complex manufacturing processes into usable workflows
    • Information architecture for data-heavy applications
    • Designing for very different roles, from the shop floor to production planning
    • Prototyping and validating new product concepts

My designs run in real production environments, including at ZEISS, Fraunhofer, Yokogawa, Agathon, Allgaier and voestalpine. The biggest lesson from ten years: enterprise UX is rarely about simplifying everything. It is about understanding the domain well enough to know which complexity can go and which has to stay.

  • 04 – 07/2024Consors Finanz BNP ParibasSenior UX designer · web app and landing page conceptBanking
  • 10/2022 – 02/2024Deutsche BahnUX lead · disruption reportingMobility
    UX Lead

How do you make complex disruption information understandable when passengers need it most? The task was not to redesign notifications, but to determine which information matters, how it should be structured and prioritised, and how different disruption scenarios can be communicated consistently without overwhelming anyone.

    • Leading the UX concept and interaction design
    • Translating complex disruption scenarios into clear information structures
    • Exploring approaches through rapid prototyping and testing them with users

The work ran through several design and research cycles in which the concept was tested with real passengers and refined from findings and feedback.

  • 11/2020 – 03/2021lean.codesUX design lead · project management applicationSaaS

  • 02/2020 – 01/2021Deutsche BahnSenior UX designer · design system developmentMobility
    Senior UX Designer

Consistency across a large and growing ecosystem of digital products does not come from designing individual interfaces. Together with the Deutsche Bahn design team I developed standards and reusable patterns for the group's digital products.

    • UX and UI standards for recurring interaction patterns
    • Reusable patterns and guidelines across products
    • Translating brand principles into practical design rules
    • Foundations that different product and design teams can apply consistently

The work paved the way for a more systematic approach to product design: fewer inconsistencies between products and a shared foundation for new experiences.

  • 06 – 11/2020Deutsche BahnUX lead · information platform redesignMobility
    UX Design Lead

Modernising a legacy platform means knowing what to change and what to preserve. I led the redesign of Deutsche Bahn's existing information platform, from analysis through implementation. Existing workflows, functionality and user expectations had to be understood and kept while the platform was renewed both in UX and in technology.

    • Identifying usability issues and opportunities in the existing platform
    • Simplifying and restructuring established workflows
    • UX concepts and prototypes for the new experience
    • Validating and refining concepts through extensive user testing

The result was a modernised platform that keeps what users rely on while being clearly easier to use.

  • 06 – 11/2020Social StepsSenior UX designer · iOS app redesignMobile
    Senior UX Designer

Making everyday activity more engaging through social interaction and friendly competition: that was the task. I developed the UX concept for a new version of Social Steps, an iOS app that lets users create and join activity challenges with friends and colleagues.

    • UX concept and information architecture
    • User flows and interaction design
    • Challenge and competition mechanics
    • Prototyping the core app experiences

The project added a consumer perspective to my work: usability combined with motivation, social interaction and the wish to come back.

  • 04/2017 – 02/2018Deutsche Bahn / VendoSenior UX designer · design vision for today's Navigator appMobility
    Senior UX/UI Designer

Before it evolved into the new DB Navigator, Vendo was Deutsche Bahn's initiative to rethink the digital travel experience on mobile platforms. I worked on the mobile product experience for iOS and Android, helping shape how passengers interact with the railway's digital services.

    • UX/UI for iOS and Android
    • Mobile interaction patterns and user flows
    • Translating complex travel and mobility requirements into intuitive interfaces
    • Consistent experiences across both platforms

Another perspective on mobility: customer-facing experiences for one of Germany's most widely used digital service environments.

  • 02/2015 – 05/2016Colmeia Cloud ServiceLead interaction & visual designer · COLMEIA, platform for global job structures and workforce dataConsulting / HR
    Lead Interaction & Visual Designer

With Binder Consulting I worked on the software that evolved into COLMEIA, a platform for managing complex global job structures and workforce data. My task was to translate complex HR processes, organisational structures and large amounts of data into a clear, usable enterprise product.

    • Interaction and visual design of the software
    • Translating complex HR processes into clear digital workflows
    • Information architecture for data-heavy enterprise applications
    • The platform's visual language and reusable UI patterns

A good example of the work that shaped my approach: understanding a complex domain deeply enough to turn it into something people can actually use.

  • 2012 – 2016ShopbezirkFounder · e-commerce for vegan dog food, from first shop to warehouse operations, later soldE-Commerce
    Founder

In 2012 I co-founded Shopbezirk, one of Europe's first online shops dedicated entirely to vegan dog food and accessories. What started as a small WooCommerce store quickly grew into a real e-commerce business: demand and product range grew so fast that we moved into our first warehouse and rethought the technical foundation, migrating from WooCommerce to Shopware.

    • Building and evolving the e-commerce platform
    • UX and customer experience
    • Product sourcing, including imports from the US
    • Marketing and customer acquisition
    • Operations, logistics and fulfilment

After several years of building and scaling, we sold the business. What stayed with me: building a digital product is far more than the interface. Technology, operations, customer needs and business decisions are all part of one system.

  • 2008 – 2014kopfbezirkFounder · design agency for digital products, with clients like KPMG and AllianzAgency
    Founder

In 2008 I founded kopfbezirk, my first design agency, working for clients from established enterprises to mid-sized production companies. Over six years I led creative and digital projects for clients including KPMG, Allianz and Ratpack Filmproduktion, combining design, emerging digital technologies and strategic communication.

    • Digital and interactive experiences
    • Early mobile applications, web design and development
    • Brand and communication design
    • Film and media production
    • Client consulting and project leadership

As founder my role went far beyond design: acquiring and advising clients, developing concepts, leading projects and bringing the right people together. This is where I learned to see design not as an isolated discipline but as part of a larger business and product context.
